It is easy to make a "landscape" that works fine for Stellarium - if you have a modern graphics card. Simply use Hugin (which we all know and love) to make a nice 4096x2046 equirectangular image, and install, setting type to "spherical". http://www.stellarium.org/wiki/index.php/Customising_Lands
