Press Release The Delhi Committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist)-New Democracy [CPI-(ML)-ND] condemns the joint Police-PAC action which is on since this morning against the landless and poor (Nishad, Pasi) peasantry of Ujjaini (Dist. Koshambi, UP). Over 500 PAC and local policemen led by SO Radha Raman Singh supervised personally by IG Police Chandra Prakash have gone on a rampage in the village since morning. According to the available information, four people have been injured in police firing, 2 of them are serious (these 2 are in hospital); 25 houses have been razed, 16 women and 12 men have been indiscriminately picked up and carried away by the police.
At the base of the action, is the repeated declaration by the police and local administration that no open programmes of All India Kisan Majadoor Sabha (AIKMS) and CPI (ML)-ND (popularly known as Lal Salaam Party) will be allowed in Koshambi district. A widespread struggle of sand miners against the vested interests linked to ruling political parties, which is introducing machines for sand mining (which is prohibited by the law) have been on in the area. In addition, after endless application to the local administration for distribution of govt. agricultural land along the bank of Yamuna river but to no avail. This land was being cultivated by the feudal. In November, 2009 the common people sold their crop on 9 acres of this Gram Sabha land. They continue to apply to the local administration for long overdue distribution of the land but to no avail. Now that the time for harvesting has come, the state has arrived to defend the vested interests of feudals. Strongly condemning the current operation, CPI(ML)-New Democracy demands immediate withdrawal of Police and PAC from Ujjaiani; arrest of police officials responsible for firing on people and release of all villagers. That the fact the Police and PAC have assaulted local poor, who have been demanding implementation of land distribution speaks volumes about the anti-poor and anti-dalit character of Mayawati Govt.
