keycode 54 = C NoSymbol Ccircumflex
For this line, you need 'keycode 54 = c C ccircumflex Ccircumflex' otherwise
you lose the lowercase 'c'.

Have others had problems with getting Mode_switch to work? After hours
of experimentation, i still have gotten Mode_switch to work on only one
of the two machines i've tried it on. I'm using Mandrake Linux 9.0 and
9.1 with XFree86 4.2 and 4.3, respectively. I do this with xmodmap:
