So too patch it I need to rebase the thinkpad-acpi. Is there an article,
or anything that describes this. I can do it, probably but I need to be
pointed in the right direction.

if the patch is not applying you have to modify it. Even if the two .rej
files are corrected, its not likely to work, because you also have many
"fuzzy" succeeded lines.
you have just to decide..
- drop the mm patches
- drop the thinkpad patches
- find someone how is able and willing to reba
