That pretty well sums it up. Yes, COBOL (but not SCOBOL, which is an 
interpreted language) can be called from TAL. Tandem has Common Runtime 
Environment (CRE, similar to CEE in principal) to enable mixed-language 
environment.

    From what I remember SCOBOL was part of the Pathway/TS
(CICS-like) product, it had screen handling capabilities.  NonStop COBOL
was COBOL-85, from what I remember.  

No JCL on Tandem, they had TACL(Tandem Application Control Language)
more like Unix Scripts.
