Actually, you were correct originally. Ring works between systems in an
environment that has a sysplex and systems outside the sysplex. It is Star
that works only within a sysplex. In fact, if you have only a sysplex,
there is almost zero reason to use Ring and IBM strongly recommends

We are creating two new systems without our usual (and historic) set of
software. In researching the new setup, I found a GRSPLEX can span systems
not in a sysplex. Does this work well enough to use a GRSPLEX

to share data. The more LPARs in the ring, the worse performance gets. At
one site, we had 8 LPARs (6 were in a single sysplex). It was managable for
