Just looking into this myself, doesn't DSF have to be configured and running to support zFS?

Select "Setup" on the menu (upper right corner), then option 7 "Enable Superuser mode". Then select "File_systems" from the top menu and option 4 "new zFS" on it. It is all smooth sailing from there.
