Seeing that the original poster asked how to unallocate a dataset, it is
interesting that nobody mentioned UNALLOC!
For those that are not familiar with UNALLOC, it is an alias of FREE, and
possibly easier to remember because it is so clearly the reverse of ALLOC.
On one system I heard of, FREE

ISRDDN is no more a sysprog tool than LISTA. Sure, it has more
functionality, but what are you afraid of? That your users might screw
up some datasets? There are lots of ways for them to do
I think ISRDDN is more mainstream now than when it first became available.
I learned the other day on ths very list that DDLIST on the command line
of
ISPF does the same thing.
Looks like its been integrated in to ISPF.
