I was just trying to look at a couple of files on the CBT tape. Not having
a mainframe available to download to, I was curious if anyone had written a

Translating to .txt wold be great. Some of the files on CBT have doc

Ed,
Thanks. I never saw that before. I'm sure there was discussion about XMIT
Manager before, but I forgot. I downloaded it, but now its time to go play
catch with a football with my son, who's going back to Korea tomorrow. I'll
try using it later.

XmitManager is a great little tool, but has one small restriction: it
doesn't handle XMITed PDSEs very well. For the members it can read

To determine the internal label and dsn, you
can use a tape map program, if one is available or you can use
IEBGENER as follows:

Keep in mind that if the fully qualified dsname is longer than 17 bytes,
you
will only see the last 17 bytes of it in the tape hdr, but you still need
the full name in your JCL.

Actually, you don't need the full name in your JCL. You can use the 17

99000 = Catlg control, 98000 = bypass tape mgt.
I thought they were the same, but stuff changes as do my optics.
File 1 is the volume label, file 2 is the 1st data set label. Bill had it
right.
Nope! VOL1 and the first HDR1 are both in file 1.

Can this we done using a parameter in JCL?
TIA

AFAIK no.
For sure 3590B drive can write tapes for reading in 3590E.
However 3590E can only read such tapes.
