If you have a way to display ENQs (TASID, for example), just look for MAJOR name of SYSDSN or SYSVSAM. Minor name, enter cluster name. If there is an ENQ, then the file is OPEN. not quite. The SYSDSN ENQ shows that the cluster is allocated, but not necessarily open. The SYSVSAM ENQ
