I'm not so sure. Running on a zAAP requires knowing the
"secret handshake". zIIP eligibility requires running in
an enclave, which in turn requires recoding the application.
zAAP eligibility is much easier (for an
I read the XML Statement of Direction again very carefully, and there's a

may exploit the z/OS XML component — this extends zAAP exploitation to the
XML Toolkit for z/OS."

I guess so. But it would still be nice.

Consider: you're going to create it once, but parse it many times
thereafter. The more you read the data, the better the economics will be.

IBM is just taking care of the real expensive part of the operation.
XML parsing can crush the best of cpu's.

I should add to the information I posted earlier.
The information about Cobol 4 was based on an IBM Web document from
about a year ago when I was researching information on newer COBOL
releases, and which has since been taken off their website. So there
may not be a Cobol 4 / 64 bit version even

Parsing only.

Because those aren't COBOL constructs?

Perhaps the COBOL compiler builders feel that the code generated is
optimal without using relative branch or the other new instructions. Most
application programmers don't see the instruction-level code, nor do they
really need to. Most systems people would only worry about it if they

If Cobol is truly alive, why doesn't the 3.4.1 compiler support the "new"
relative addressing and immediate instructions? Do we have to wait for
Cobol 4?

One does have to wonder what's going on inside of IGZCXML. On z/OS 1.7,
compiling a COBOL program containing XML GENERATE and XML PARSE statements
