Well, you need to look at hardware life too. We had a PC running Win

the tin can capacitors leaked and had to be replaced. So anything
over 10 years old needs to be replaced for CMOS battery / Capacitor

The MDB can be composed of the header, general object, control program object

The header must be there and the general object is required.

Probably forced to do so because management listened to an incompetent auditor.

Sad - I've seen that as well.
During Y2K a number of phones had to be replaced because the display only
showed 2 digits for the year when displaying the date. Go figure the mentality
of those making those decisions (they probably got a kick back for the money
spent).

For our OSA-ICC consoles, we use Visara LX-500 units. These have a TN3270
emulator. OSA-ICC is on a private network with no connection to the
outside world.

But why worry about doing updates if all you are doing is TN3270 on those
Windows workstations? Delete all the games, etc. and lock them down.

We had Windows PCs as consoles for our ICC. All of them were not on the
real network, so no regular Windows updates. Once a month, we took a
long Ethernet cable and connected each console PC to the real network
and updated Windows and then reconnected to the ICC. Not too hard to do.

Exactly how my previous site was setup, one private vlan for ICC
consoles one vlan IIRC for the HMC network
worked well

At my previous site, they had windows PCs for consoles on a dedicated network
connected to the ICC ports. Since the PCs don't have access to the outside
world, they don't get updates automatically so they don't reboot unexpectedly.
The PC folks just have to connect them to the network for upd
Hi,
I have done some extra tests and Mr. Steve Smith was correct, CIBX is not
available to batch jobs until a MODIFY is issued.
Thank you again for your time and support

Thanks Brian for the sanity check, I'm going to assume the APF entry was
added because my predecessor was not sure, so added it to be safe, this
is now causing headaches for audit issues. removing the entry will check
off an audit to-do for me

The alias name is not valid to z/OS processing for APF. It's in the manual
somewhere. The alias name is jsut a catalog construct, it doesn't physically
exist on DISK anywhere.

There is no real reason that your ICC consoles need to be on the rest of your
network. However, there are people who set it up with a VPN so they can
operate consoles from home.
