Phil,
I'm not familiar with the term "PAX number", but for at least 20 years,
United Airlines has referred to its six character (alpha-numeric) reservation
identifier interchangeably as a "reservation number" or a "record locator". I
don't know whether that's an actual TPF record or just a t
Richard,
I'd like to add my best wishes to those of your myriad friends on this
list. I seem to recall first running into you at a SHARE meeting when you
worked for USAir (or was it one of its components?) in North Carolina. It's
been a long and interesting road since then.

Phil,
Have you considered getting involved with the Linux & VM Program (LVM) at
SHARE? In particular, the LVM Technical Steering Committee has been working
with IBM on this sort of topic for a number of years. I know they're always
looking for interested members from the user community.
Sounds like you have a CP READ up. Q NAMES is a CP command; Q DISK is a CMS
command. Try typing a B (Begin).

David's comment is a perfect example of the reason Rich is exactly right:
The requirement should specify the effect you want, not the method of
implementation.
And don't forget to include the business case for the enhancement in the
requirement.

Catherine,
I don't think your understanding of SHARE is backwards, but your
expectation of what the performance manager will do might be. I suspect
it's trying to keep heavy CPU users from hogging the processors.
To get back to the original question, Jim, I think you need to describe

Y'know, Neale, it's probably way past time to stop referring to Kate and her
sibs "the vermin." Judging from the "Prom 2010" pictures on your Facebook
page, they no longer qualify as such. :-)
Happy birthday, Kate.

Dennis,
I would add one more thing to what Rob said. Your paging rate
should also be taken into account. If 100 "spindles" will handle your
peak paging rates without causing measurable page wait, I'd vote for
going the all-3390-9 route rather than the -3 approach.

Casey,
First of all, this discussion assumes that you're working with a
FILECONTROL directory (vs. a DIRCONTROL directory). See the
discussion under CREATE DIRectory command for the differences.
You need to look more carefully at the discussion of the GRANT

David,
Unless you're max'ing out these virtual machines by consuming 100%
of a real processor, it should be as simple as increasing their SHARE
values.

Mike,
On more recent levels of z/VM and the hardware, you might want to be
looking at the results of the STSI (STore System Information) hardware
instruction. It produces a level-by-level description of the "hardware"
environment, just not as nicely formatted as what proc/sysinfo gives you.
