Rich Greenberg's comment carries weight; the altnative editors are
often not available.  But I very much prefer them.  As it happens,
I have THE in a ready-to-run form for

        Windows (via CYGWIN)
        PC Linux
        mainframe Linux
        FreeBSD

at least, and possibly others.
The tarball is non-intrusive, non-disruptive, and trivially removed
(in case you need to).  There is a pre-req, that for Regina, since THE
uses Rexx for scripting (and Regina happens to be the interp I chose).
