I would strip graze it using electric fence (assuming it's grass and
weeds not harmful to horses). That way it will take you quite a way
through the winter...

I think it depends on how much there is, what kind of
grass, what kind of weeds, and how much your horses
can eat without having a problem (
Also--if I want to fence a smaller area near the run-in and use it as a
sacrifice pen, what would be the best way to prepare the footing? If I just
let the horses lose won't it just turn to mud over the winter?

I read all the directions and tried to follow them turning the pile
first by hand then with the tractor with the front end loader. I got
lazier every year and did less, but still have a 'steaming' pile every
year which means it's composting and breaking itself down. It will

I owned (for my grandson's use) a nice quarter horse gelding for a couple of
years. He grew a winter coat even an Icelandic would have admired. The
