Had to laugh out loud at your son's joke.
My dad and my mom's brother were both firefighters in Southern California.
We grew up steeped in that culture and still feel those guys are heroes.

That was at my side of the family.
This weekend is my husband's side of the family... expecting at least 200
people.
(so the conformation discussion comes at a not-so-good time for me, but hope
