Do you mind my asking, how old are you? If you see yourself riding
for many more years after these old guys have given you a good
foundation for starting, then you'll need another younger horse in
addition to the possibly prolonged retirement that the old guys may
require.Are you prepared to keep
it would depend on what you want to do with the horse. for instance
if you are a person who likes really romping around or riding long
hours in adventurous terrain, then you would have to look at the needs
of an older horse healthwise. They might have arthritis for instance,
and need supplements
Hi Everyone,
I find all the comments on this subject very interesting. I am in
the position now where I am starting the process of looking for an
Icelandic or two for myself and my partner. My normal MO is to put the
cart before the horse and never have my ducks in a row.

I think Megan is willing to do this. I think she has the price set to
keep folks who would re-sell them away. I am in contact with Megan and
she does want what is best for these ponies.

Yes
Nic,
My husbnd said that very thing the other day. It would be kinder to put
them down than to pass them along. Imagine how hard it would be for them to
move at this age.
It makes me wonder how such a family treats grandma.

Well said. I think it's appalling that these people are trying to get
rid of these poor horses at this age. Either offer them free of charge with
an unbreakable "forever care" contract to a well-researched loan home, or
have them quietly and calmly euthanized at home instead of passing the

I wish I could figure out how to contact these folks but their website
gives no clue. I feel sure these horses are related to my horses that
I had in West Virginia. The parents of my horses were sold to
Washington Island in 1966 to Arni Richter and Laurie Veness' father.
