While I don't agree with him in regard to horses, I like this as a
philosophy for other areas in my life.

I got bucked off a horse about ten years ago. It
resulted in broken ribs and a head injury ( was
wearing a helmet). I was afraid to ride for at least
6 months. By the way. What did John Wayne say?
