If you just need others to access it and not modify, you can setup as a web server too. But, in that case, people must know your ip address to access files. Samba is the better option for sharing files, but if you have problems accessing it from windows machines, you can try the other way. On

Hi, I dont really know the samba configuration and its details. Just check the firewall settings you have. If there are a large pool of users, a P2P system is better. If you are the only provider and others are clients go with an ftp or something. I think both will be faster than a workgroup kind
