actually hacking means a piece of computer code that performs some function, esp. an unofficial alternative or addition to a commercial program : freeware and shareware hacks. it doesn't have to be illegal even though some do that. there are hackers that are hired by companies to hack into their own system to fix any vulnerabilities. so technically hacking could be called ethically hacing
