Well the laptop is a pretty old one and the HDD is ata.
Did you try connecting it to another system via a {,e}sata to usb adapter
cable? The most basic version is available in ebay.
I haven’t tried that yet as I don’t have the adapter with me at the moment.

In short, there was no way I could boot.
But somehow it was related to the corrupted partition table of HDD. And
upon removing HDD from the laptop, I am able to boot from pen drive, and cd.
Yes, I tried reconnecting the HDD, and it was a fail.

But sadly, it simply will not boot from any device, be it pendrive, or
bootable cd. Well. I opened the laptop, and removed HDD and now I can boot
from pendrive. I guess the partition table of the HDD became corrupt. May
be I can fix it by connecting the HDD to another computer
and its working perfectly.
