On Fedora, gtk+ is the 1.x version and gtk2 is the 2.x version.

Junise, you can also take a look at gtkmm - the C++ wrapper for GTK
(which is originally in C).
If you are in to C++ programming, Qt might appeal as a better C++ framework.
