Hi,
i just installed FC3 and made one user named amit with home directory in
/u1 (/dev/hda3 ext3 partition)
it gets created successfully :
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 8192 Dec 17 12:34 amit
owner and group is root, i tried changing it
chown and chgrp but i get :
chown: changing ownership of `amit':

You have to know the arcane commands in Linux. For example, in
normal computer languages like C++ and BASIC, 'if' statements are

Check /etc/groups, does a group called amit exists
and also just check //etc/passwd to confirm the
creation of user called amit. Ownership of root for a
user home directory is unusual.
