there are so many tools which can download the whole directory strucures. just
go to google.com and enter the text "FTP browser". You can try them too.
for linux os: gFTP (its a freeware which comes with linux itself)
for windows os: WSFTP

as per my knowledge, your linux server cannot directly
send sms to a mobile. it will send it to smsc provider
like airtel, idea hutch etc.
you need to see how they are accepting your request
and responsing back.
