But yes I want to access the windows formatted Secondary HDD from
Ubuntu installed on the primary HDD. Ubuntu does not recognize this.
Hence I had to revert to KNoppix to access the 2nd HD

An addition is that in case I am able to access the Windows formatted
HDD through Ubuntu then I could format only the primary HDD into Ubuntu.

I want to install Ubuntu Warty on a PIII with two HDD. I am unable to
configure both - One the primary is already linux. The second was a
windows HD which has not been changed in to Linux partition.
Another option I would like to keep is that there is data on the 2nd HD
from the time when i
