Hi friends,

As a follow-up to the Policy on Open Standards for e-Governance, the
Department of Information Technology has published the "Interoperability
Framework for E-Governance in India (IFEG)."

ODF and OGG are listed as the standards approved for e-governance in
India. A copy of the IFEG can be downloaded from below

http://egovstandards.gov.in/public-review/egscontent.2010-12-28.3570952294
/at_download/file<http://egovstandards.gov.in/public-review/egscontent.2010-12-28.3570952294%0A/at_download/file>

How this will help?

-> No Vendor lock-in[1]
-> Approx. 22404 INR of Indian tax payers money will be saved for not
using buggy proprietary office suites and vendor lock-in file format(ex.
doc) in government agencies.
-> Usage of Open/LiberOffice.org in all government agencies can be
encouraged.
-> ODT, ODP, ODS, ODG, ODF, OGG, OGV, will be the mandatory file formats
for Document, Presentation, Spread sheet, Drawing, Mathematical formulae &
equations, Audio, Video, respectively.
