Hello All, I am changing my post from "Re: [ilugd] Problem in installing Linux on SATA drive" - so I donot Cross post as I have different topic.
I am trying to install CentOS 4.2 x86_64 DVD (similar case with Fedora Core 4) version on my machine Configuration : Proc: AMD Athlon 3000+ (x86_64 ) Mobo : MSI RS480M2 (w PCI-E, 4-SATA port, IDE) HDD : SATA : 160GB IDE : 2x80 GB. RAM(DDR SD): 1 GB + 2x256 MB DVD : Lg DVD 8x Writer KYBD : 101 USB keyboard. MOUSE : iBall 5 button - PS/2 GRAPHIC : NVIDIA XFX 6600 with 128 MB Monitor : VIEWSONIC 15" TFT. I am installing the OS in my IDE drive which Primary (/dev/hda1). Whenever i try to install the Linux OS on it has problem with SATA drive installed on my system giving a msg: "IRQ 11: Nobody cared". After disabling the SATA port using the BIOS setting. The installation on my system goes on but it does not detect my mouse and the graphic installation does not work properly. Further, using the text mode for installation the system boot into linux (init mode 3) but seem be too sensitive to usb keyboard as when a single key it send multiple inputs. This is not all but I have to install the NVIDIA driver separately to atleast get the GUI online and still the linux system does respond properly. I have not yet found a way around this . So please help !! I am wonder off two possible problems. 1) Is my PC configuration goofed up some where?? 2) should I use another variant other than CentOS / Fedora Core / Knoppix (older version, have not tried the latest yet), which variant should I use that can run linux w/o disabling the SATA drive on my machine.? PS. I have being using CentOS (RHEL variant) linux on my system before upgrading to this configuration, have not yet face any problem!!. Best regards.
