Introduction
------------
The Yahoo! Platform Engineering team is looking for an engineer to help
enhance and operate our Global User Database. The User Database is the
primary data repository for all user information, leveraged by the
public-facing Yahoo! properties. This position provides a number of
exciting challenges providing an essential service for all of Yahoo!,
and provides exposure to a wide variety of Yahoo's products and
services.

Qualification

B.Tech/BE/MCA/MS

Required Skills/ Mandatory skills
---------------------------------
- This position requires a dedicated individual who can work well in a
  team environment.
- The candidate should have a B.S. in Computer Science (or related
  area of study) and 4+ years of experience.
- Effective oral and written communication skills are a must.
- Experience with Unix systems is required, including performing Unix
  administrative tasks.
- The candidate must have demonstrated experience with Unix shell (bash)
  scripting and perl.
- The candidate must be able to demonstrate skill in trouble-shooting
  techniques and problem diagnosis and resolution.

Desired skills
--------------
- Experience with C or C++ programming is a plus.
- Exposure to large-scale production environments is also a plus.
- Knowledge of monitoring tools like Nagios is a plus!

Role and responsibilities
-------------------------
Responsibilities for this position include providing operational support
for the Global User Database, including tasks such as installation,
configuring, updating, monitoring, and tuning of the system components.
The position will also handle the release process and need to coordinate
with both internal and external team members. This candidate will also
be responsible for documentation of processes and contributing to FAQ's
and help files.

Introduction

Databus is a content delivery system used at Yahoo to deliver weather,
sports, and other data to hundreds of servers worldwide in numerous
properties, including My Yahoo!, Yahoo! Mobile, Search, FIFA, and many
others.

Role and responsibilities
-------------------------
We are looking for a great developer to work on improving the Databus'
reliability, monitoring, and administration tools. The ideal candidate
would be a programmer with solid skills in C++, Perl, and shell
scripting, with good understanding of networking technologies and
system performance issues.  The individual in this position will be in
constant communications with his counterpart in  the US, service
engineers, and the YNOC personnel.  He or she must possess excellent
organizational and communications skills, must be a quick and creative
problem solver, and must be content with a very challenging, high-paced
environment, often requiring immediate response to issues with
production systems.

While this is not an on-call position, it requires frequent involvement
in production issues, and may require participating in the pager duty
shared with other team members.

Qualification
--------------
- A BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Required Skills/ Mandatory skills

- 5+ years of experience of software development, some experience of
  building distributed, scalable, fault-tolerant systems and/or web
  applications.
- Passion for quality and automation of routine tasks.

- Solid knowledge of Unix, Apache, C/C++, Perl, shell scripting, XML.

Desired skills
--------------
- Hands-on experience writing networking software preferred.
