Mr.Sudhir Gandotra, one of the founders of India Linux Users Group Delhi
(ILUG-D) and CEO, Indserve Infotech Pvt. Ltd., the creators of the first
enterprise grade GPL Linux distribution from India - OpenLX Linux (
www.openlx.com) and providers of Linux Training, Support, services and
Product Development ,visited the JIIT University campus on the 15th of
September to conduct a seminar for students on the topic "Linux and Career
for Students".

After a short meeting with Professor J.P Gupta, Vice Chancellor and
Sh.Sanjay Goel, Head of Department, Computer Science and IT, JIIT
University, Mr Gandotra enlightened the enthusiastic students about Linux
and Career in open source. He defined Linux, as not just a software, or an
Operating System, but in terms of the human aspects of the open source
revolution. He defined it as a conscious effort to make us better human
beings. He discussed about the selfless open source world prevailing, and
the geeks who by and large are the makers of Linux and other open source
software available today, who keep contributing valuable code to the OSS
community without expecting anything in return. He encouraged students to
contribute towards open source development and discussed the benefits of
open source, and the knowledge and learning which students can build upon.
He also gave a live demonstration of the OpenLX Linux, explaining its easy
installation, compatibility and user friendliness.

Around more than 200 interested students attended the event to use the great
opportunity to widen their horizons about Linux and the Open source world.
During the session, many students came up with interesting questions which
Mr. Gandotra was more than pleased to address. Questions like hardware
compatibility issues, various new, advanced and open source replacements to
already existing proprietary software made students aware of many
possibilities available in this field. He also discussed the current
developments going on, and encouraged students to contribute to the same in
every manner they can, to get both moral and career oriented benefits.
Finally, he distributed some free CD's and DVD's of OpenLX Linux Desktop and
Server version for students.

Members of Linux User Group, Delhi, also attended the seminar and later had
a short meeting with the college linux club and discussed about the upcoming
event – Freed.in. The Linux Community at JIIT University extends a sincere
thanks to Mr. Gandotra and the ILUG-Delhi to take out time and making this
event a great success.
