hi,
Please check the config of eth0.
It says the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and the default gateway is
172.16.50.1
IF this is the case then your ip address should be 172.16.50.x
or else change your subnet mask. The subnet mask config and the ip
address do not seem to correlate.

hi pankaj
yes one of the members suggested change the net mask
to 255.255.0.0 of eth0 and gateway for eth1 to be
specified as 172.16.12.146 ;and it did worked and
explanation is the gateway 172.16.50.1 is directly
connected to my machine via hub so there is no need to
specify any routing .
regds
i had installed redhat 9 on my machine which is having
two network cards rtl8139(both) eth1 is connected to
my local lan through hub and the other card (eth0) is
connected to the hub of cable guy who provides net
access to us ;after activating cards with the
following configuration i am unable to

Your subnet mask should be 255.255.0.0 if you plan to use the same IP
numbers. OR Change
