thanks for the replies. tried to boot from original OS discs
(jaguar), from the hdwe test disc, and from the leopard disc. machine
insists on booting from HD.
i've tinkered my fair share inside towers, but i've never opened an
imac up. how difficult is it to get to the HD and the PRAM battery?
I have it set to the time server in Apple Americas/US time
it says my time is 2am, but everyone around me and google says my time
is 3am
Please what is going on? Help!

Or your location is set to a city in the wrong time zone.
