thanks for the replies. tried to boot from original OS discs (jaguar), from the hdwe test disc, and from the leopard disc. machine insists on booting from HD. i've tinkered my fair share inside towers, but i've never opened an imac up. how difficult is it to get to the HD and the PRAM battery?
