The best and safest way to eject the optical drive is to hold Opt. while booting, and then either press the EJECT button on the keyboard, or Apple+E if a dedicated eject button isn't present. ( I think this is what Christian was suggesting, but I wasn't sure?) Sticking a paperclip randomly
