Thanks to John and Jim for their response!!! What I've done since my first post: Ran disk utilities. Found 1 permission error in an iTunes directory. Repaired that. Verify disk reported no errors. Then I nuked and reinstalled just the OS (10.6). Tried to update to 10.6.8. Cannot expand the

This may sound too simplistic, but have you added any fonts lately? If so, or if not, you may have a corrupt font(s), which if a previously good document goes bad, it could be signs of corrupt fonts. I hope this isn't the problem, because this is very difficult and time consuming to
