Sounds to me like a wire short, if there is something like a +5V line
getting crossed with a ground making the system lock up instead of
disabling the single USB port.
As for mice, I've always used Microsoft mice and never had problems with
them. I've typically used Microsoft Intelimouse Explorer

I'm hoping someone can help out. I have an iMac that was donated to
me by someone I don't know for classroom use. She had set it up so
that I could only access a simple finder account meant for students. I
wanted to reinstall OS 10.5 and erase the disk so that I wouldn't be
it was working stangely. the OSX Tiger DVD i had was taking its time
to boot. about 40% into installing the Installer Fails powers off the
mack i run teh Disc thru a cleaner as it was a lil dirty,
now it Kernel Panics not finding a Driver for Platform Powermac 2,1
