Make sure you don't expose the drum to any direct sunlight, and
generally don't keep it out of the printer any longer than necessary
to clean it. The photo sensitive coating can be damaged by too much
exposure to regular light.

These days, inkjet is generally more economical unless you are a high
volume user, and even then some of the newer full-page inkjet
offerings might be cheaper per page. The cartridge cost might be
higher, but you don't have any other expensive items like the drum or
fuser that you have to worry about.

I have a Brother multifunction inkjet (MFC-J6710DW); the feature set
provided for the cost was excellent, and even factory ink cartridges
are reasonably priced. However, the color quality just isn't there;
I've tried tweaking it and graphics still come out a bity muddy and/or
under saturated. So, if you're printing a lot of photos, you might
want to go with HP/Epson/Canon. Otherwise, it's a good machine for the
cost compared to the other manufacturers.
