I removed the ssd from the iMac, put it in an external usb case and testet
it on another Mac. The drive is still ok. When I connect the external case
to the iMac and fire up the boot manager, still no disk shown there.
It could be the IDE controller is wonky. I had that happen in an iBook.

There is no coin battery on the main board. Only the "standard" 3.6 V one,
replaced that, but no change.
Do I have to remove anything from the mainboard to find the coin battery?
MacTracker also only lists the 3.6 V battery.
