Hmm, I have tried that previously - it didnt work. Probably because
the System Folder had to be 9.2 to be Classic, and my os9 disc was
only 9.0
I have got it working by copying a sys folder from a friend.
Thanks anyway,

When I was trying to install OS9 on my iMac G3 I ran into a similar
problem. I wouldn't let me install it on top of my OSX system. I
believe that I just copied the system folder that was on the install
CD to my root directory. I was able to use classic mode with just
that. Hope it helps.

I am aware of that rule of thumb, but I didn't really have any

it seemed to work just fine, I've been running off that same OSX

This is Mac OS 9.2.2 directly from Apple. Even if you have OS 9 CD's,
this should be better, as you don't have to worry about updating, etc.

Yes, I cannot install OS9 without formatting my hdd. It has an error
during installation saying " cannnot update system software".
Yes with the copying. OS9 System Folder can be copied from someones
computer, and put onto someone elses as Classic. OR you can copy of
external HDd

Po-en.
The Classic environment allows you to use legacy apps that will only
run under OS 9 on a machine running Mac OS X Tiger. The Classic
environment requires that you install Mac OS 9.2 or later. See
instructions here:

Classic, but I don't have a Classic System Folder... I have the
original iMac OS9 CD's, but it doesnt seem to let me install Classic
