Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help out. I have an iMac that was donated to
me by someone I don't know for classroom use. She had set it up so
that I could only access a simple finder account meant for students. I
wanted to reinstall OS 10.5 and erase the disk so that I wouldn't be
responsible for any stuff she may have left on the hard drive. I
followed the instructions on OSX Daily to reset the password (http://
osxdaily.com/2010/08/10/forgot-mac-password-how-to-reset-mac-
password/) and then the instructions on Low End Mac for faking out the
processor speed so I could install 10.5. (http://lowendmac.com/osx/
leopard/openfirmware.html). Then, I realized that the DVD drive is
broken and won't read any CD or DVD, so I installed via target disk
mode using the instructions found on Low End Mac. I had to repartition
the disk as GUID and then zeroed the disk and installed as usual.
Everything went smoothly and the computer rebooted on my Macbook just
fine. Afterwards, I shut down both computers, disconnected them and
started them up again. The Macbook was just fine, but the iMac won't
boot from the hard drive. I get a gray screen with a blinking folder
and question mark inside. The funny thing is, when I connect it via
firewire to my Macbook, I can see that everything is working just
fine. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Avery
