When you promote a server to a DC, you remove the local SAM database
(actually not completely, there is one user left, but that user is only used
for DS repair mode). This can cause all kinds of issues with permissions.

What are you using for the database for the Imail domain?
Did you research security concerns on a Domain Controller? I believe that
when you promote a member server to a Domain Controller, a lot of security
settings are changed included which default GPO is applied.
