As OpenSolaris is developing slowly packeges that first existed as
SFEpkgs are replaced by SUNWpkgs. However, how do I -KNOW- a SFEpkg is
no longer needed because as of this new release it is part of the
distribution? I do not want packages that are "in the way" of each
other.

Actually, it is written in the HCL for M3000-M8000 servers:
"For Systems that are running SPARC64 VII processors, the minimum required OS
is Solaris 10 5/08 and Firmware XCP 1070."
So just make sure you have a recently updated PROM (firmware) once you get your
servers.
