What type of monitor you have?
I've tested the Nvidia 169.12 driver at the 1920x1080 resolution with my Nvidia
6200 using the OpenSolaris 2008.05 distro. Resolutions came up fine, so could
it be a EDID glitch in the driver with some monitors?

IIRC, Ubuntu uses vesa driver (or nv--can't remember). You probably need to
refer to AlanC or Stephen's tutorial about replacing your video driver.
