This is interesting question. Arachis I think can have upto 4 seeds. But, to form a proper fruit any ovary doesnt need all its ovule to be fertilized. The number of ovules should be genetic but it can also depend on the health (if the number is not 1 or 2) of plant as well as the type of inflorescence and type of fruit. How many ovules will turn into fruit is not genetic but a matter of chance. Usually plants prolong the viability of the stigma to be pollinated if they are virgin. But once pollinated the viability reduced drastically. Pankaj
