When old , already in tree form , it is easy to tell E. nerifolia from E. nivulia by spiral arrangement of spines/cyathia in former , leaf or no leaf . It becomes difficult when they are not old enough , without trunk .......E. caducifolia becomes 3rd option .....at times spine arrangement looks both straight and spiral , stem winged and non-winged .......more so when they are leafless .
