I don't know whether talent can do much, unless you use it well.. But for making line drawings you only need some patience. There are so many tools available to make a neat line drawing. Now, it is easy to make a sketch using a Camera lucida attached stereo microscope. Even good quality photographs can be used to make the sketch of plant habit...
I am not a proffessional in making scientific illustrations..
