  Dear all,

  I returned a week ago from a two-week (27th May - 11th June) holiday in
Ladakh. We covered some of eastern (Tangste, Pangong Tso) and southern (Hanle,
Tso Kar&Moriri, Chumathang) Ladakh and drove back via the Leh-Srinagar highway,
so a fair bit of western Ladakh too. Altitudes ranged from nearly 18,000
(skipped Khardungla as I had been there last time) to about 10,000 ft. The
distant mountains from Leh (11,500 ft) were snow-capped and higher altitudes
like Chang La were snow-bound. Farming at lower ranges and near rivers was in
full swing and near Kargil the wheat and barley were about 3 ft tall. It would
be fair to say that the weather was pre-spring to summer depending on the area.
Some mountain sides and valleys in the more arid regions looked greenish or
yellow and a closer inspection revealed grass just beginning to sprout. Flora
in this cold desert is indeed very different, though one did encounter some
cold temperate trees/shrubs, e.g. willow, poplar, lilac, etc.

Starting my posts with a few garden/potted plants seen in a hotel in Leh.

Would be most grateful for ID help.

  Thank you.
  Sushmita Jha
