Saw this not so commonly seen herb at Aarey road, Mumbai on 22 Nov. '09. Hope 
ID is correct.
 
According to 'Common Indian Wild Flowers' by I. Kehimkar, pg :52  "Habit: A 
stout, straggly shrub seen in small clumps in deciduous forests. Seen on the 
hills up to 750m. Bristly folded up pods with 4 or 5 joints are typical. 
Flowering: Sep-Nov."
