Title: Hanging checkout
I have been having difficulties in producing a checkout on
one remote site, where it just hangs when it gets started. (This
whole setup has been starcrossed, as I have had some difficulty
understanding the permissions setups... but that is another
matter).
The situation:
Something to do with cvs server running as root, inheriting the HOME
environment variable. Create a user named "cvs" and run the server under
that user. Or try this as root:

Here is what I did as root:
cvs -d /usr/local/cvsroot init
/usr/sbin/useradd cvs
cd /usr/local/cvsroo
I cant get access to the repository after following your suggestions. I
think I got it the way you described it. I can login to the server ok,
but when I try to checkout a module it says: "setgid failed: operation
not permitted". I have the modules owned by their respective user:group
and have

Set the permissions on the repository directories so that read-only
users have read permission but not write permission.

Don't. Log in, by hand, once, as the user the batch file will run as,
and don't log out. Logging in to CVS does not create any kind of a
connection, it just remembers the password so you don't have to type
This patch allows specify path with ':' in it to access windows repositories
