I've been looking through the archives on this and understand that it
can be accomplished through the use of permissions.
So, I've got the standard 'cvsuser' group to which I have added user
accounts who are supposed to have

He meant world *readable*. If your OS supports ACLs (Access Control
Lists), you can get extremely flexible behavior. I strongly suggest
reading all of Chapter 2
