workgroups[0] allows you to have switch between different window
configurations. I like to have one dedicated for Gnus.
Other packages providing similar functionality exist but I really liked
that one.

In either case follow-ups should work.
Possibly prefix the group names with nnimap.* to avoid confusion with
actual newsgroups.

check out group levels. in an earlier thread either on this list or on
gnus.general I explained my setup using a few gnus demon handlers to
fetch different levels on different intervals.
Concerning your other question, look up `gnus-group-uncollapsed-levels'

, it just gets messy,
IMHO.
And as you're saying yourself Richard, people just get fed up with
having to «cherrypick» through every message and simply M-, quoting the
whole thing.
Feel free to disagree if you prefer a different approach, I'm always
curious!

the cursor is? You can
G always move it down, you know :) In fact I would encourage you to do
G so.
That's the point. Moving down manually every time is a bit of a pain if
you just want to quote and start typing.

Eventually I had to C-g out, resulting in gnus not connecting at all
(imaps connection would have been possible but gnus just aborted all
together
to them, then either typing that number or a substring of the widget
name to select, then have RET behave as usual.
Alternatively, have a key to get completing-read for all the widgets,
should be nice with ido.

[Bugfix] gnus-desktop-notify-check
Make `gnus-desktop-notify-check' more robust to another data inconsistency
I'll never understand why people prefer spamming their inboxes over
setting up a virtual group fed by 'inbox' and 'sent'...

PH `gnus-notify-ignore-groups' could be added without much hassle, I
PH might write a patch tomorrow if I get around to it.
Or simply use what is already there:
(setq gnus-parameters
`((spam
(or
(and (eq gnus-notify-mode 'gnus-notify-all-except) (not notify))
(and (eq gnus-notify-mode 'gnus-notify-explicit) notify))
(don't take this one too seriously ;)
How about making it a global minor mode?
