In Emmetsburg we have it on our registration forms, but do not make a big deal
if they don't want to give it. About 90% give it and the rest don't. We still
collect it if the parents want to give it.

Ok, this ain't gonna be popular, but here we go...
1. Schools are not a big target for identity theft. I don't know about you,
but we don't store financial data (credit cards, checking accounts) with
student data, and the existing info without the SSN is adequate to steal
someone's identity anyway
I had a class in DM this past summer and their were some administrators from
some of the bigger schools in iowa in attendance. After doing some discussions
with them, it seems like many of those schools are removing the SSN from their
Student INformation Systems. According to Iowa, we are not
